THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER: EP 1 NEW WORLD ORDER (M) Review
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a new Disney+ Original series. Marvel superheroes Sam Wilson (aka the Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier) team up to protect the world after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The first episode, New World Order, came out on Friday.
I was super excited for this series. I had been waiting a long time to see it and was stoked when it finally came out. After the first episode, I was actually quite disappointed. Nothing happened. The whole episode. It makes sense to use the first episode of a tv show to set up the story, but using a full 50 minutes for this is overdoing it.
For the first ten minutes, there was your typical Marvel action. We see the Falcon try to track down an American soldier who has been taken hostage. There is a chase as we see the enemies and the Falcon jump between planes and helicopters. This scene was pretty decent but it was just like any other Marvel action scene. There were a couple of great scenes or elements but we didn't get to see anything new.
There were also a few sections of the episode which I found really hard to watch. The camera choices were very artistic but actually took away from the viewing experience. And during many of these scenes, nothing was happening. The characters were just talking about how the world needs superheroes, where Captain America might be now and what will happen to his legacy. I wanted to see them talking less about this stuff and actually doing something.
I really hope that this series gets better. Like I said, I was excited for the series and the trailers made it look really cool. But the first episode didn't leave me looking forward to the next.
I'm not going to give this series a rating based on the first episode though I will write a full review for the series once it is over. The first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does not make audiences want to come back for the second and Marvel has a lot riding on the many good looking trailers.
